037 Common Teal

The Common Teal (Anas crecca), is 34-43 cm long dabbling duck, also called the Eurasian Teal or simply Teal. The male of the species is more colourful than the female: it has brown head, glossy green eye stripe, and silvery grey body. It is found in almost all types of aquatic habitats, but mostly in lush lakes and ponds, across temperate Eurasia. The pair builds nest in a hollow ground in dense vegetation near water and the female lays a clutch of 5-16 eggs. In non-breeding season the birds form large flocks.
