041 Whiskered Tern

The Whiskered Tern (Chlidonias hybridus) is about 27 cm long seabird with black cap, medium grey upperparts, dark grey underparts, white undertail, short forked-looking tail, and red bill and legs. Its body plumage turns whitish-grey in winter. Their breeding grounds are warmer parts of Asia and Europe, but they spend the winter in the Indian Subcontinent and South Africa. They build a raft-like nest either floating or moored in inland marshes and swamps.
