049 Black-winged Stilt

The Black-winged Stilt, Pied Stilt or Common Stilt (Himantopus himantopus) is 33-36 cm long wader. It has white head with black crown, white neck and underparts, blackish back, long thin black bill, and long pink legs. They are found in shallow lakes, ponds and marshes of South and Southeast Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, Mediterranean region, and Western Europe. They nest in small groups near water and survive on insects and crustaceans found in water and sand.
