004 Spot-billed Duck

The Spot-billed Duck (Anas poecilorhyncha) or simply called Spotbill is 55-63 cm long large duck. It has mottled dark-brown back, white terminal half of the inner tertial feathers, light buff face, dark brown cap, a black bill with distinct yellow tip, in case of the male a red spot at the base of the bill, bright reddish orange legs and webbed feet. It is a resident breeder in the freshwater lakes and marshes of tropical and eastern Asia. It is a dabbling duck eating plant food, generally in the evening or night. The female of the species lays 8-14 eggs in the nest built near the water.
