012 Grey Heron

The Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea) is a 84-102 cm long wader in the heron family of birds. It has grey plumage above and off-white below, white head with a broad black supercillium and slender crest, and pinkish-yellow bill and legs. Grey Herons are widespread Old World species and native of temperate Africa, Asia, and Europe. In summer, they are found throughout Europe; and in winter, central Africa. In recent times, they have adapted to the environment of urban areas and can be seen in large numbers in a city like Amsterdam. They stand still for long periods of time in water waiting patiently for a prey.
