046 Ruff

The Ruff (Philomachus pugnax) is 29-32 cm long wader, though the female is much smaller. It has grey-brown back and breast with scale-like pattern, white underparts, long yellow or orange legs , and a medium-length dark bill. These birds are migratory and form large flocks. In summer, they are found breeding in the wet grasslands of colder regions of northern Eurasia. They winter in the South Asia, Africa, Australia, and southern and western regions of Europe.
