558 Black Kite

The Black Kite (Milvus migrant), also known as Pariah Kite, is probably world’s most abundant bird of prey. It averages 51 cm in length and looks almost black with a light brown bar on the shoulder and forked dark brown barred tail. It is a resident breeder in the temperate and tropical regions of Eurasia and Australasia. They are known for their ritualized aerial courtship displays involving loud calling, male and female interlocking talons, and tumbling or cartwheeling.
